Artist and Studio
I studied Fine Art many years ago, before becoming smitten with glass during the early 2010s. Living alongside the Pennines, and later the spectacular Allegheny Mountains in America, deeply influenced my connection with the natural world. Now based in my Guildford studio, I produce kiln formed pieces and cast glass sculptures inspired by natural forms in nature and the glorious countryside.
My aim has always been to have fun by exploring the possibilities of glass, pushing my own boundaries and continually discovering something new. My recent work explores the surface planes of the fruit, much like drawing the planes of a face. Taking me back to my own roots in fine art. Each facet of the pear catches the light, enhancing its surface and texture.
You may have noticed the bubbles within my cast glass sculptures. These are created naturally during the firing process and are an intentional part of each piece. As the bubbles travel through the glass they draw layers of glass with them, forming beautiful organic shapes. The more dramatic the bubble, the more exciting the outcome, and the greater chance of them appearing as a hollow on the back. I don’t mind this, as it all adds to the uniqueness of the piece.

The design process
Every piece begins as a hand-drawn sketch, where the shape and proportions are carefully refined before the making process begins. Each apple and pear is then created from carefully selected pieces of cold glass, arranged by hand inside a handmade plaster mould before spending around a week in the kiln, depending on its size. As the glass melts tiny bubbles naturally form, adding character and depth. Some rise to the surface, and that’s all part of the magic of working with glass.

The Wisley Gallery
My work is also exhibited year-round at the Wisley Gallery alongside that of nine other local artists. Every piece is individually handcrafted, with each artist bringing their own distinctive style and creative vision, making every work original and unique.
Located in the Welcome Building at RHS Wisley, the gallery is run by the artists and is open seven days a week.
